[When Mako returns from work, he'll find Korra leaning against the wall outside his apartment, obviously waiting for him. She looks up when she hears his footsteps, and offers him a smile.]
[About the only thing Mako's ruined apartment is good for is clothes storage. So going home every day is just a temporary thing before heading back to the office.
When he fetches his keys from his pocket he looks up in surprise.]
Uh, hey. [Last person he's expecting to see.] Is everything okay?
Huh? [Korra brushes herself off when she stands, looking at him in surprise when he asks.] Yup, everything's fine. I mean... as fine as they could be with the whole spirity mess.
[She picks something off the ground and dusts that off, too. It's the appa plush that she'd found when she was helping him last time.]
I just wanted to give this back to you. We got so distracted chasing after the spirits last time, I just sort of... took it.
[She just sort of holds it out awkwardly when Mako pauses, not really sure why there's this odd tension between them again. Inwardly, she sighs, then pushes the plush into his arms.]
Have you thought about moving? I mean, if the spirits are really bothering you this much...
[Plus the vines running through it still provide a problem.]
[He reflexively grabs the plush, all thanks to pro-bending training. and getting a practice ball slammed into his chest.]
I did move, it's just this one's in better condition right now.
[He outwardly sighs.]
When the portals appeared, one of the triads set off timed explosions. My apartment building was one of them. I took everything I had and brought it here until mine is rebuilt. If it gets rebuilt.
[Yeahhh she'd wondered what had happened. That explains so much. It also sets off an idea--or reminds her of an idea that she's been mulling over since the newcomer troubles have started.
Korra purses her lips, looking off to the side. Then, she blurts out:]
We should go looking for apartments together!
[...wait, that didn't come out right.]
Uh, I mean... I've been thinking about moving out of Air Temple Island. It'd be better if we're living close by, right?
[She frowns. Where I've been sleeping at.] Mako--you've been sleeping at the the police department again?
[Didn't we already go over this?]
Are you going to say yes?
[Korra isn't sure what to think of this, honestly. On the one hand, she doesn't want Mako sleeping under his desk like he's been, but on the other, she'd already warmed up to the idea of her, Mako, and maybe Bolin living so close together.]
crashes in here
Hey.
noooo, my pristine and untouched inbox!

violatar
oh.]
D- [He tears his eyes away from the plush and accidentally looks at Korra before looking to the side.] I was looking,
I mean, thanks. I thought the spirits might have taken it.
[He reaches for it, but his gloved hand half-closes. Seeing her with it, well that only makes him remember that night at the Winter Spirits Festival.]
deal with it

YOU deal with it

I-yeah. It would, I mean.
[Then his memory catches up with him, the implied thought of him and Korra sharing an apartment his brain put there is pushed aside.]
Asami did offer to let me stay at her mansion when I told her where I've been sleeping at. [Just guess where.] I didn't give her an answer yet.
[He looks at Korra, an expression of uncertainty mixed with a strong hint of curiosity. The question he left for later has an answer now, maybe?
He'd say exactly what he means, but that require words. Awkward words.]

She didn't really give me a chance to say no.
[He sighs and scratches the back of his head.]
I said I'd see about packing my things up and heading over when I'm not pulling crazy hours.
[But since he makes his own hours without Lin around, that's an act he can pull indefinitely.]
no subject
And...how long ago was that?
[She might know him a little too well.]
no subject
...about a week. Sort of.
[Beat.]
It's been busy.
no subject
[She isn't busy it at all.]
Mako, you can't keep sleeping at your job. If you're really that busy, Bolin and I can help you, too, and cut down on the time.
no subject
[Seeing an ex every day because you’re living with them? Definitely out of place.]
And there’s not a lot to pack. [Losing a lot thanks to the vines and then most of the rest in the explosions, it’s probably not much of a surprise.]
